Dr. (Mrs.) Leela Ramamurthy

An educationalist and experienced school administrator, Dr. (Mrs.) Leela Ramamurthy has proved her mettle in the field of administration. She holds a post graduate degree in Child Development and Educational Psychology. The Inter American University of Humanistic Studies, USA, conferred her the Ph.D. in recognition of her distinguished achievement and for the projects and research works submitted in the field of Special Education — Dyslexia.

She has completed several certificate courses in Special Education for learning disabilities conducted by Hazel Mackay of the UK at Chennai in 1990, Yoga and Meditation from Isha Yoga Centre, Coimbatore, a one-year educational leadership programme by CEMD New Delhi organised by the Chinmaya Education Cell, and computer programming by Intel, along with certification courses in Naturopathy and Fingerprint Reading (Dermatoglyphics). She is one among 20 principals selected at the all India level for a Leadership Training Programme by IIM Ahmedabad organised by CBSE, and is a certified personnel for Total Quality Management (TQM).

She began her teaching career in 1978 with Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Tripunithura, Ernakulam, and served Chinmaya Vidyalayas at Chennai and Tripunithura for more than forty years. While in service, she was entrusted by CBSE to conduct the Tamil Nadu State Level Athletic Meet for 2001–2002 for CBSE schools, with a participation of 1500 students from 52 schools. She was instrumental in starting the Teacher Training Institute at Anna Nagar Chinmaya Vidyalaya and was its founder coordinator. She is a member of the Indian Association of Pre-School Education, a Senior Assessor of the CCMT Education Cell for all India Chinmaya Vidyalayas for academic and vision audit, and a Master Trainer for the Value Education programme (CVP) of the Chinmaya Education Cell as well as for Drug Demand Reduction, a combined awareness programme of the Ministry of Social Justice, Government of India and the Chinmaya Education Cell.

She has attended and presented papers at many national and international conferences and has received awards such as Vocational Excellence, Best Teacher, Best Principal and Tamil Nalvazhi Nilayam (Woman of Tamilnadu). She was awarded the honorary Paul Harris Fellowship by Rotary District Governor W. C. Anand in 2001 in appreciation of her noteworthy contributions in the field of education, and has also received a Doctorate in Acupuncture and Acupressure. She is a resource person for CBSE CoE, Cambridge University and a few other publishers, and conducts national level workshops and seminars on education, behavioural and developmental psychology, management and leadership.

Dr. Leela Ramamurthy is a member of the Rotary Club of Tripunithura Royale, District 3201, and was awarded Game Changer President for her meritorious community service projects in 2019. She served as Governor's Group Representative for 2020–21 and as Assistant Governor for Rotary District 3201 in 2021–22. She is an executive member of Pulse of Tripunithura, a community based NGO with more than 300 members. She has served as President of Tripunithura Chinmaya Mission and as President of the Board of Management of Tripunithura Chinmaya Vidyalaya and Chinmaya Arts and Science College. She is currently officiating as Senior Trustee for CMECT Greater Kochi, in charge of academics, curriculum planning, research and development for Chinmaya Vidyalayas and the Arts and Science College functioning under the Chinmaya Mission Cultural and Educational Trust, Greater Cochin.
